  21. First, let me say that I'm a newbee to 3D animation, and LW in
  22. general. So I wouldn't be surprised if I'm doing something wrong
  23. (I hope I am).

  25. I'm running the pre-release on a PC with the following:
  26. 486DX2 @ 80Mhz
  27. 32 MB RAM
  28. 1.5 GB HD
  29. Diamond Viper VLB w/ 2MB VRAM
  30. Windows for Work Groups 3.11 w/ 32-bit file access & 32-bit disk access.

  32. Second, I just like to make a note that the install option should
  33. have an option for installing JUST the LW programs in case some
  34. out there don't have a CDROM. Otherwise, the installation process
  35. will not complete (Am I doing something wrong?). My computer at work
  36. doesn't have a CDROM, but my home computer does.

  38. My first problem is with the make preview function. When I make
  39. previews of animations, two things happen:
  40.  
  41. 1. If the animation is less than about 100 frames, when I go to play
  42. it, all I see is the background and no objects. I know I'm doing
  43. something wrong here. Anybody know?

  45. 2. If the animation is longer than 100 frames, it hangs my PC after
  46. making the 105th or so frame. This happened with the spacefig.scn
  47. that came on the LW CD. It doesn't matter whether I'm using bounding
  48. boxs or wire frames, it still hangs. If anyone can tell me the exact
  49. procedure for making the preview of this without hanging up my PC,
  50. I'd greatly appreciate it.

  52. My second problem is when rendering a single frame (#43) of the 
  53. blade scene on the LW CD.

  55. These are the settings:
  56. render type= Realistic
  57. Trace shadows = on
  58. Custom size = 1024x768
  59. pixel aspect ratio = square pixels
  60. Antialiasing = Med.
  61. Soft Filter = on
  62. Adaptice Sampling = on
  63. Threshold = 8
  64.  
  65. With the above settings, my machine gets to rendering the second half
  66. of the frame and crashing with the following error (this is most
  67. likely useful only for the programmers):
